WAT EEN AVONTUUR!
Voordat we op weg naar Albanië gingen eerst maar eens de banden wat opgepompt want de wegen in Albanië schijnen wat slechter te zijn. En onze betaalpassen op wereldprofiel gezet i.p.v. Europa. Lekker voorbereid en again: weer supermooie uitzichten!
Toch niet zo goed voorbereid..
We gingen langs Blue Eye (Skyr i Kalter). Die kant op ging het wat minder soepel gezien het weer veel kronkelweggetjes waren en we rook achter de banden zagen komen. Tot nu toe dachten we dat er wellicht iets met de koppeling was dus met omlaag rijden spaarden we die, maar nu blijken het toch de remmen te zijn..Dus nu maar wat meer vragen van de koppeling.. Maar Blue Eye: Dit water is echt een plaatje! Hier komt zuiver water door de lagen van de aarde omhoog om via de 25 kilometer langer Bistrice-rivier in de Ionische Zee te eindigen. Ondanks dat duikers tot 50meter diepte zijn gedoken is de werkelijke diepte niet bekend. Dit keer ook weer slecht voorbereid want we dachten dat het van de parkeerplek niet zover lopen was. Weer eindigden we met de kids op ons nek en liepen bezweet en al de weggetjes omhoog, omlaag, omhoog, omlaag.. eenmaal aangekomen konden we wel even met de voetjes afkoelen want het water was ijsklontjeskoud! Maar prachtig! Dezelfde route met hetzelfde verhaal weer terug en wat later kwamen we aan op Camping Family in Gjirokaster.
De stad met de 1000 treden..
Met de fiets naar het kasteel van Gjirokaster, de bergstad die - blijkbaar - bekend staat als de stad met de duizend treden. We wisten dat we de fiets ergens neer moesten zetten en gaan lopen maar, again: slecht voorbereid. De route omhoog waren allemaal kasseien en met de kinderwagen is dat natuurlijk een groot drama. Tel Owen daarbij op die geen zin had om te lopen. En daarna nog een flinke plensbui. Bij het eerste beste terras gingen we schuilen, bestelden een traditionele schotel (superlekker!) en wachten tot de regen over was. We liepen het laatste stuk weer verder (weer een flink aantal trappen omhoog) en konden eindelijk genieten van het kasteel en zijn kanonnen (vond Owen heel interessant). De route weer terug, waar Sharon Maddie op de arm had en nog uitgleed op de trap maar zich nog net kon vangen, mede door een tegenligger die direct te hulp schoot. Daarna de weg weer terug over de kasseien, Maddie in de kinderwagen in slaap gevallen (hoe is het mogelijk met die weg..) en teruggefietst. Sharon nog een supermarkt opgezocht en een flinke plensbui over zich heen gekregen. Zo'n dag. ’s Avonds maar een pizzaatje besteld in het restaurant..
Oh no we didn't..
Voordat we de camperplek verlaten nog even de meest favoriete taak uitvoeren: de wc legen. Inmiddels heeft Sharon het ook (slechts) 2x gedaan, de overige 40 zijn aan Roel te danken ;). Als je het closet leegt spoel je deze altijd nog even na met een tuinslang maar wat bleek, dit was dezelfde tuinslang die je gebruikt om je watertank te vullen waaruit je drinkt, tandenpoetst, groenten omspoelt etc..Hier kwamen we te laat achter dus de kokneigingen voelde ik al aankomen ;). Niet bij nadenken en verder maar.
Avonturen op de weg naar Vlore
We verlaten Gjirokaster en vertrekken naar Vlore. Nog even langs een enorm fietsparcourtje voor Owen en Maddie en wat shots gemaakt met de drone. Onderweg naar Vlore gestopt bij een fruitkraampje, 2 bakjes aardbeien gekocht en binnen 5 minuten opgegeten. Mijn god, deze zijn goed! Ook zagen we nog hoe ze hier krabben vervoeren. Een bus zet een bak af, een personenauto stopt, stopt die krabben in zijn achterbak en rijdt naar het restaurant. Overigens ontsnapten die krabben telkens dus het was wel komisch om te zien.
Gouden tip
We spraken daar een man die de tip had een weg in te gaan en alsmaar rechtdoor te rijden want “it’s the most beautiful beach”. Nou, hij had gelijk! Na een sprinkhanenplaag op de weg kwamen we bij helderblauw water, geen kip te bekennen en de camper oprijden tot aan het strand. Uiteraard ook wat gave droneshots gemaakt, Roel (en zelfs Owen) de zee in geweest en Maddie zich weer volledig ingesmeerd met zand.
Einde middag naar Vlore gereden, dure boodschappen gehaald (luiers zijn hier ook superduur) en een toffe eco camping (Valona) gevonden in het bos. Zo'n camping met beetje hippiegehalte, bbq's en vuurkorven, tafels en stoelen van boomstammen, bospaadje naar het strand. Kortom: een leuke energie daar! 's Avonds gezellig geborreld met een reisstel (waar we toevallig eerder mee contact hadden op Instagram) en paar keer aangevallen door rondvliegende boskevers (leek me de beste omschrijving).
Toen ging het regenen..
..en doken we de stad Vlore in.
Voor Maddie nieuwe schoentjes gekocht (waren we eerder vergeten in een speeltuin op een camping) en ze verwend met een grote graafmachine en kiepwagen voor in het zand. Owen zijn haar groeit erg snel dus ook even een stop gemaakt bij een Barbershop en trots loopt hij nu rond met een typisch opgeschoren Albanees kapsel..
Van Vlore was het 1,5 uur rijden naar Berat waar we op een simpele plek overnachten om de volgende dag daar de stad te verkennen. Maar man man, wat een onvoorstelbare rijkdom aan landschappen, kleuren en sferen. Albanië lijkt daarmee nog best 'on-ontdekt'. Zoals ieder land ook wel kent zijn de verschillen tussen arm en rijk goed zichtbaar. Soms denk je: hier kan toch niemand wonen, maar dan zie je toch een waslijntje met kleding hangen.
Onderweg zei Owen nog: “Ik denk dat we verdwaald zijn want we zijn de zon kwijt”. Kind van zijn moeder.. ;) En daarmee sluiten we de 1e week Albanië af!
ONZE TIPS
- Check ook je telefoonbundel, het kan zijn dat die hier dus niet werkt. Je kan een simpel simkaartje hier kopen of - dit doen wij ook - bekijk internetberichten in een cafe of camping met wifi (ook wel eens lekker geen internet te hebben..)
